Show horses help fund the cure for breast cancer at the 44th Annual
Spring Daffodil Arabian Horse Show April 23-25, 2010
Of all the unlikely places from which to fund a cure for breast cancer, the saddle on the back of an Arabian or Half-Arabian horse may be the unlikeliest! But, that’s exactly where a group of riders will take on the challenge of riding against each other for the win, as they ride for funds to research and treat breast cancer.
The Daffodil Horse Show proudly presents its United Professional Horsemen’s Association Pink Ribbon classes to be held on Saturday evening, April 24, 2010 at the Western Washington Fairgrounds in Puyallup, WA. “On Saturday, we intend to paint the Daffodil Show pink. Normally, blue is the color of ribbon that every rider is striving for---but on Saturday, we’ll be “riding for pink and the cure of breast cancer,” said Diane McNett, DAHA Secretary. Diane added that Show Season of Scottsdale, Arizona has generously donated a $1,000 gift certificate to the cause. Tickets will be sold during the show and drawn prior to the last “pink ribbon” class on Saturday evening. Diane stated, “50% of the funds have been designated to the UPHA breast cancer foundation and 50% will be sent to Gilda’s Club.” Gilda’s Club, located in Seattle, WA is a clubhouse for men, women, teens and children with any kind of cancer diagnosis and their extended families. Programs are offered free and provide social, emotional, and educational support, completely funded through grants and donations. Diane states, “the fundraiser is unique among horse shows and part of an overall effort to bring awareness to both horses and cancer research”.
